No. No one else automatically "covers" you, if your roommate has hazardous practices that cause a fire.

You need to bring this up with your CO.

Will the service or any agency cover me in the event of a fire/damaged goods?
My roommate constantly plugs in <120V devices in to 220V outlets AND power strips.. he recently brought a PS3 thats labeled 127V max; i told him after he blew out 3-4 items (stereo speakers sets and the like) that he has to watch what he plugs to the wall and what not, to check the voltage and if its labeled as less than 130V to use a converter. i poorly assumed he got one when he had bought his PS3, today i noticed he left it on (like always) and was about to turn it off when i saw it was on a multi plug power strip coming from a 220V wall and it was unusually hot. will the army, the unit or any other agency cover me if all my stuff goes haywire or if there is a fire will my stuff be covered or at least my rear end not be in a sling as i have told him this many times before? some cases i have seen/heard about through NON-hearsay, if your room/things get damaged due to no fault of your own the service will cover you, but this is not typical since UNLIKE if i was out on the economy (off post) i cant control who my roommate is.
Return it and buy a regular surge protector. Line cleaners etc, won't make a difference unless you're in an area that has brown out/ black outs... a regular surge protector can protect your equipment as sufficient as the monster brand. Don't fall for their marketing bs.

Hi there again Jonela...for deterring inappropriate cat behaviour around electrical wires consider using a cable wire loom to bundle up the the wires. The loom is very inexpensive and not only does it prevent the cat from tangling in the wires, but also tidies the area up as well. You should be able to find some of these at local hardware stores in Singapore if not you can order these online. Cable Organizer Wire Loom: http://cableorganizer.com/wire-loom/

For the wires that are difficult to bundle consider using either apple cider vinegar or ara pet-friendly deterrent spray-on product called Grannick's Bitter Apple® http://www.grannicks.com usually found worldwide at most pet stores. It is a citrusy scent that once a cat tastes will generally avoid those areas which have that particular odour. Rather than directly spray these onto the wires and plugs, first unplug the surge suppressor then mist the solution on your hand to coat the wires manually.

Outlets are not grounded in my house?
I bought an old house and apparently none of the outlets are grounded. One electrician quoted 3000$ to ground them using a ground plate. Another electrician told me I probably shouldn't bother spending the money and to wait until I have a problem then rewire the whole house.

My question is, is it safe for me and my electronics? There are GFCI's in the bathrooms and kitchen, but can I protect my TV and computer with just plug in surge protectors?

RS-485 Surge protection?
Remote camera surge protection:

I have a couple of remote control cameras. Each one is located about 150' from the house. The cameras have a coax (video), cat 5 (rs485 control), and of course 120v power. I have installed a typical power strip surge protector at the camera and run these cables through the surge protector. I also have installed an 8' copper ground rod and #6 cu wire. I occasionally still experience lightning damage.

I suspect telephone connection on the power strip may be my problem. I believe the voltage cut-off for a phone line is too great for the rs-485. I believe a telephone circuit is designed to operate around 40-80volts. The RS-485 operates less than 5 volts.

One the other end, I have whole house protectors, and in addition I run all the cables through another surge protector power strip.
Any suggestions for an affordable low voltage surge protector?

Interpret/analyze my extremely odd dream...?
In what I thought was my house, but it had extra rooms, one was a beautiful screened porch with wood floors and greenery, little tea and mini lights all around illuminating the place. I felt "home" there, and at peace. I couldn't wait to get a book, make myself comfortable on one of the wicker chaises... that kind of feeling. It was night. For some reason, my ex-step father (who I see maybe once every five years) was in the kitchen, fixing my washing machine (I don't have one in that room). I realized and was sure that I had that little screened in room before, but had just forgotten I did. I thought how lucky I was to have it, and that I had very definitely been in that room before - I'm sure of it. In the room adjacent, a beautiful silkscreen scarf or curtain with birds on it covered an AC unit I didn't know was there, I took it off, thinking I could use it to replace the crumbling bathroom window shade (which is fine in real-life), but realized it was only on a dowel rod and wouldn't fit the window. I found many old signs in the back room where the AC unit was, and some more in the kitchen (almost like the type that would have advertisements from the early 20th century). One was a calendar with angels on it. I loved it and took it into the little screened porch room. I remember there not being enough light, and being a little upset that there didn't seem to be enough outlets to put on all the lights I wanted, and I remember having had that same thought before, at some other time, and looking for more outlets, so I decided not to even look this time and told myself I'd just buy some power strips to light up everything and that would solve the problem. Still holding the angel calendar, I started to walk out of the room when two hands shoved me from behind with such force that I nearly went reeling and lost my balance, but I didn't fall, didn't want to look back, because I knew it was something VERY VERY bad...the epitome of evil, you might say. I just wanted to run. And then whatever it was grabbed me by sinking it's fingers into my back. (Oddly enough in the same spot where I've been having a dull ache for the last few months) It hurt. Even though I think my ex-step father was just in the next room (still fixing my washing machine), I started screaming for my mother as if I was just a child (literally screaming: mommy, mommy, mommy!!!); and yes, even though I'm WELL past the age where I'd do so in real life! (I know, weird!). Anyway, I was wondering what this dream was all about. I jerked awake, crying and I think perhaps screaming - because my cats were both giving me the fuzzy eyeball. Help. I'm afraid to have this dream again.

There are two dangers to a computer in a lightning storm. First, there's the danger of a power surge. I figure my surge protector will handle that.

The other is the sudden loss of power while the hard disk is doing some writing. This can be utter disaster. And even though you may not be using the computer, as long as it's powered up, something in Windows could be using the disk.

So I generally shut everything down and turn off the surge protector until the show's over.

Hope that helps.

Can I click the off switch on my surge protector and my computer will still be protected from surges?
I don't understand the reason for that one on and off switch for the surge protector. lol Please school me.
I know the computer will not work if I turn it off. I want to know is when I'm not using my computer(turned off) and decide to flip the switch of the surge protector off will the computer still be protected with the surge protector switched off?
